We’ve wrapped a block in natural calico (unbleached cotton), which has been washed by hand then dried flat to give a textured ‘crease’ effect. Overprinted it with a winter tree image and text.

Then mounted them three different ways, to give you plenty of choice…

Print Only. Backed with a thin sheet of MDF. A sawtooth hanger and protection pads are fixed to the rear so the print is ready for hanging.

Print with Painted MDF Mount. A block of 2.5cm thick MDF is hand-painted grey and mounted to the rear of the calico print. A sawtooth hanger and protection pads are fixed to the rear so the print is ready for hanging.

Print with Reclaimed Timber Frame. The frame is handmade using reclaimed antique Victorian roof timbers. The inside of the frame is hand-painted in grey and the calico print is then mounted in the frame, and a hanging mechanism attached to the rear so it’s ready for hanging. We purposefully retain any defects in the timber to add to the charm and character of the piece. These can include knot holes, nail holes, warps and water marks, so each artwork is totally unique.

Two New ‘Winter Tree’ Prints

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Our very popular ‘Winter Tree’ collection of typographic prints has now just got a little bit bigger…

Our ‘Winter Tree’ prints feature a handmade frame and panelled backboard made from reclaimed wood — Victorian roof timbers no less. Paint is applied by hand and then over-printed with distressed image and typography. So very Coulson Macleod.

Our ‘Winter Tree’ collection of six artworks has an unlimited print quantity.

We pride ourselves on the fact that the planks used to make the print vary in size and that we keep any defects in the timber to add to the charm and character. We love knot holes, nail holes, warps and water marks. And we know our customers do too.

Winter Trees: Norwegian Style

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

Just stumbled across this gorgeous Norwegian blog. Jill lives in Bergen, and although she’s not an interior designer, her home, like her blog, is so beautifully styled. And Jill’s lovely husband gave her one of our ‘Winter Tree’ prints for Christmas. Doesn’t it look happy in its new home?

The vintage-style print is ‘Thick Blows My Frosty Breath Abroad’ (pictured below)…

And just check out Jill’s New Year’s Eve table…

Elle Interior’s Christmas Issue 2010

Coulson Macleod’s typographic art is in the Christmas issue of Norwegian magazine Elle Interior.

As you can see Elle Interior has featured a print from our Winter Trees collection.

Our handmade Winter Tree prints are made from reclaimed wood (the timber started out life as Victorian roof timbers to be precise). We then whitewash the wood and over-print with a distressed image and distressed typography. Well it wouldn’t be a Coulson Macleod without some distressed typography would it?
