Here’s To Your Good Health
Wednesday, June 8th, 2011Natural reclaimed materials. Check. Typography. Check. Handmade. Check. Vintage feel. Check. Oh, so very Coulson Macleod.
Introducing Coulson Macleod’s Curio Collection, inspired by old pharmaceutical adverts.
For this new vintage art collection, we’ve used hessian, a coarse woven fabric made from the vegetable fibre, jute. We’ve wrapped the hessian around a block measuring 35cm x 35cm just so you know and printed the artwork onto the fabric. Then we’ve mounted this hessian print onto a handmade frame made from gorgeous reclaimed wood (Victorian roof timbers to be exact). The inside of the frame is hand-painted white.
This artwork has an unlimited print quantity.
We’ve attached a hanging mechanism to the rear of the frame so it’s ready for you to hang on your wall.
And just in case you were thinking that the wood looked a bit, well, vintage. Yep! That’s the way we like it. We purposefully retain any defects in the timber to add to the charm and character of the piece. These can include knot holes, nail holes, warps and water marks, so each artwork is totally unique.

Coulson Macleod’s Opinion
Monday, June 6th, 2011Sure, everyone has an opinion. But do you have one of Coulson Macleod’s?
Coulson Macleod has created nine typographic art prints for the Opinions Collection. Each features a chunky handmade, vintage-style, rough-sawn solid oak frame surrounding a white-washed oak panel printed with typography.
Each artwork has an unlimited print quantity.
The oak panel is cut and sanded by hand before being covered with a coat of diluted white lacquer wash to fill the grain, and then sanded and re-washed with the lacquer a second time. The panel is then over-printed with UV ink.
The mitred frame is handmade using rough-sawn solid oak with a shadow rebate on the groove. We purposefully retain any defects in the oak to add to the charm and character of the piece. These can include knot holes, warps and water marks, so each frame is totally unique.
The printed panel is then encased into the frame which is then glued and pinned, ready for hanging.
So, what’s your opinion?

Two New ‘Winter Tree’ Prints
Friday, March 4th, 2011Our very popular ‘Winter Tree’ collection of typographic prints has now just got a little bit bigger…
Our ‘Winter Tree’ prints feature a handmade frame and panelled backboard made from reclaimed wood — Victorian roof timbers no less. Paint is applied by hand and then over-printed with distressed image and typography. So very Coulson Macleod.
Our ‘Winter Tree’ collection of six artworks has an unlimited print quantity.
We pride ourselves on the fact that the planks used to make the print vary in size and that we keep any defects in the timber to add to the charm and character. We love knot holes, nail holes, warps and water marks. And we know our customers do too.

Our handmade Winter Tree prints are made from reclaimed wood (the timber started out life as Victorian roof timbers to be precise). We then whitewash the wood and over-print with a distressed image and distressed typography. Well it wouldn’t be a Coulson Macleod without some distressed typography would it?

Lark & Linen Roars For Trees
Monday, November 22nd, 2010One of Coulson Macleod’s typographic prints was awarded first prize to the winner of Design Refuge’s October Challenge. Design Refuge, if you haven’t already come across it, is the largest meeting place online for design bloggers worldwide.
The winner was Jacquelyn Clark from blog lark & linen, who had to ask for help as she simply couldn’t decide which of these prints to choose…

She said, “So as you all know, I was voted the Design Refuge October challenge winner. Yay!! My prize includes a print from the very talented Coulson Macleod and I need your help! Their work is pretty incredible; often made with reclaimed materials, each piece is unique and beautiful. I’ve narrowed it down to the above three and would love to know, which do you prefer? I just can’t decide. As an aside, yesterday Coulson Macleod put together a really sweet feature on their blog about lark + linen. It’s the first time I’ve been featured since starting my blog last April and if you’d like to see it please take a look here. It truly made my day.”
In the end Jacquelyn chose our ‘The Roar of Trees and Crack of Branches’ print, which was featured in the November issue of Elle Decoration magazine.
