A Drinking Song

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day we’re posting a daily love poem & a Coulson Macleod typographic print. Just because we love love.

A Drinking Song’ by W.B. Yeats

Wine comes in at the mouth

And love comes in at the eye;

That’s all we know for truth

Before we grow old and die.

I lift the glass to my mouth

I look at you, and I sigh.

First Love

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day we’re posting a daily love poem & a Coulson Macleod typographic print. Just because we love love.

First Love’ by John Clare

I né’er was struck before that hour,

With love so sudden and so sweet,

Her face it bloomed like a sweet flower

And stole my heart away complete.

My face turned pale as deadly pale,

My legs refused to walk away,

And when she looked, what could I ail?

My life and all seemed turned to clay.

And then my blood rushed to my face

And took my eyesight quite away,

The trees and bushes round the place

Seemed midnight at noonday.

I could not see a single thing,

Words from my eyes did start -

They spoke as chords do from the string,

And blood burnt round my heart.

Are flowers the winter’s choice?

Is love’s bed always snow?

She seemed to hear my silent voice,

Not love’s appeals to know.

I never saw so sweet a face

As that I stood before.

My heart has left its dwelling-place

And can return no more.

Did Not

Saturday, January 21st, 2012

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day we’re posting a daily love poem & a Coulson Macleod typographic print. Just because we love love.

Did Not’ by Thomas Moore

Twas a new feeling — something more

Than we had dared to own before,

Which then we hid not;

We saw it in each other’s eye,

And wished, in very half-breathed sigh,

To speak, but did not.

She felt my lips’ impassioned touch -

Twas the first time I dared so much,

And yet she chid not;

But whispered o’er my burning brow,

Oh, do you doubt I love you now?’

Sweet soul! I did not.

Warmly I felt her bosom thrill,

I pressed it closer, closer still,

Though gently bid not;

Till — oh! the world hath seldom heard

Of lovers, who so nearly erred,

And yet, who did not.

The First Day

Friday, January 20th, 2012

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day we’re posting a daily love poem & a Coulson Macleod typographic print. Just because we love love.

First Day’ by Christina Rossetti

I wish I could remember the first day,

First hour, first moment of your meeting me;

If bright or dim the season, it might be

Summer or winter for aught I can say.

So unrecorded did it slip away,

So blind was I to see and to foresee,

So dull to mark the budding of my tree

That would not blossom yet for many a May.

If only I could recollect it! Such

A day of days! I let it come and go

As traceless as a thaw of bygone snow.

It seemed to mean so little, meant so much!

If only now I could recall that touch,

First touch of hand in hand! — Did one but know!

Love Is Not

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day we thought we’d post a love poem & a Coulson Macleod typographic print daily. Just because we love love.

Love Is Not’ by Marcus Argentarius (20 BC — 30 AD).

Love is not just a function of the eyes.

Beautiful objects will, of course, inspire

Possessive urges — you need not despise

Your taste. But when insatiable desire

Inflames you for a girl who’s out of fashion,

Lacking in glamour — plain, in fact — that fire

Is genuine; that’s the authentic passion.

Beauty, though, any critic can admire.

Free Love Card With Coulson Macleod

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

From now until Valentine’s Day (whilst stocks last) we’re including one of these gorgeous handmade cards with every purchase of one of Coulson Macleod’s love-related typographic prints. The handmade card has been designed exclusively for Coulson Macleod by Ruby Wren.

Each heart has been individually cut by hand from wildflower seed paper. A true labour of love.

So when you’ve finished with your card you can plant it and wait for the flowers to grow. Literally watch your love blossom.

And this is what you could be growing…

  • Pretty yellow Birdsfoot Trefoil, Black Medick, and Meadow Buttercup.
  • Red Campion.
  • White Campion.
  • Purple thistle-like Black Knapweed and purple Selfheal, a member of the mint family.
  • Feathery foliaged Yarrow.
  • Watch the leaves of your Common Vetch fold at night and attract bees and butterflies with your ice-pink Musk Mallow.
  • It was considered lucky to step on an Ox-eye Daisy, the first flower of the year.

And these lush grasses will sprout too…

  • Ribwort Plantain.
  • Browntop Bent.
  • Red Fescue.
  • Crested Dogstail.
  • Meadow Fescue.
  • Smooth Stalk Meadow Grass.

And the C5-sized envelope is made from elephant poo (and no it doesn’t smell). Oh, and just in case you think we’d slipped up with the cellophane outer wrapper, it’s made from corn starch.

Win A Coulson Macleod On Rock My Wedding

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

It’s no secret that Coulson and Macleod are getting married. Which means we’re paying far more attention to wedding-related blogs and websites.

Before being engaged, I looked through the wedding blogs for more aesthetic reasons. They are generally beautifully styled. And yes, you get to spy on other people’s weddings, which is strictly a girl-thing.

One of our favourites is Rock My Wedding and we have a great relationship with them. Not least because one of the founders, Charlotte, owns one of our ‘Love Makes The Ride Worthwhile’ prints.

Charlotte even featured the print on a post called Wherever I lay my (fancy) hat… that’s my home.

And we get many Rock My Wedding readers becoming Coulson Macleod customers.

But now that I’m a bride-to-be, I can’t get enough of their site. The design is great. The content is fresh. And they maintain a high standard of the weddings that they feature. All unique and lovely.

So the fact they were extremely keen to collaborate with us made us very happy.

So, if you fancy winning one of our new ‘Love Unlimited’ prints in time for Valentine’s Day, go on over and check out Rock My Wedding to find out how.

Love Unlimited

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

And the second of our two brand new Coulson Macleod typographic art collections launched today…

The Love Unlimited Collection

A super chunky (8cm deep if you want the exact measurement) handmade, vintage-style, rough-sawn solid oak frame surrounding a white-washed oak panel printed with distressed typography. The size of the artwork is 54cm x 54cm.

The Love Unlimited Collection has an unlimited print quantity.

The oak panel is cut and sanded by hand before being covered with a coat of diluted white lacquer wash to fill the grain, and then sanded and re-washed with the lacquer a second time. The panel is then over-printed with UV ink.

The mitred frame is handmade using rough-sawn solid oak. We purposefully retain any defects in the oak to add to the charm and character of the piece. These can include knot holes, warps and water marks, so each frame is totally unique.
