Coulson Macleod Is Eco & GB Friendly

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

Coulson Macleod is exhibiting at Top Drawer (stand C42) — the trade show at London’s Olympia, 11-13th September 2011.

This is our very first trade show. And therefore hugely exciting (and pretty nerve-racking). But now the event is going to be even better for us, because we’ve been approved for both of Top Drawer’s special trails. Woohoo!

Renowned TV presenter and environmental champion Oliver Heath (and author of design books that happen to line our bookshelves) has lent his support to Top Drawer’s accredited Eco-Trail.

Oliver’s stamp identifies products that are:

* Produced ethically
* Under fair trade schemes
* Ideally made of sustainable materials
* Biodegradable or reusable in some way

Our typographic artwork has been selected and will be clearly marked with the ‘Eco Trail certified by Oliver Heath’ sticker.
Oliver said, “As a designer it is essential that I’m picking up on key trends and finding ways to express these in the designs that I create; keeping them feeling fresh, contemporary and exciting. Often these trends encourage consumerism for its own sake. However what we are seeing now is a larger cultural shift brought on by the impact of global recession; from a short-term way of thinking about our lives, and what we buy, to a more considered long-term approach. The good news is that many of these changes encourage a more sustainable way of thinking; from saving energy and resources to buying good quality, well-made products or just thinking about the lifecycle of the pieces that we buy.”

And our typographic artwork has also been selected to be on the Product GB trail…

This is an initiative that champions the national economy and locally-made products. With the effects of the downturn still prevalent in some areas of trade in the UK, buying British ensures our local economy is given the best possible chance to flourish.

Product GB gives exhibitors a chance to showcase their products that are made using materials sourced from the UK, and are designed and produced locally.

Visitors to the show who follow the Product GB trail will offset carbon emissions incurred from goods transportation from overseas. Support for this initiative also encourages fair-trade practices, as the Product GB sticker denotes a traceable source of manufacture.
Demonstrate your support for the national economy and buy British at Top Drawer this September. Keep an eye out for the Product GB logo as you make your way around the show.

Roll on Sunday. We are so ready.

Some Recent Press…

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

Couple of pieces of rather nice press Coulson Macleod has recently received for our much loved typographic art

Country Homes & Interiors (October 2011 issue) featuring our ‘Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind’ handmade print. The panelled backboard is made from reclaimed wood, which is then hand-painted and over-printed with distressed image and typography.

Hitched (Autumn 2011 issue) featuring our ‘I Love You’ handmade print with a solid oak frame and ‘Solid Like A Rock’ print on solid limestone.

A Chip Off The Old Block

Three new typographic art prints. Introducing ‘The Block Collection’. All very Coulson Macleod…

  • handmade
  • reclaimed
  • typography

For this art collection we’ve hand-wrapped a block (35cm x 35cm) in natural calico, and overprinted and mounted it in a handmade frame made from reclaimed wood. The inside of the frame is hand-painted in different colours.

Can You Tell What It Is Yet?

Introducing our latest typographic art collection — Catchphrases…

Do you know who said these three famous TV catchphrases? Tell us in the comments box.

Our latest typographic art collection features a natural hessian, hand-wrapped, block (35cm x 35cm), overprinted with typography and mounted in a handmade frame made from reclaimed wood. The inside of the frame is hand-painted white.

As is the way with Coulson Macleod, we retain any defects in the wood to add charm and character to the print, which can include (and often does) knot holes, nail holes, warps, and water marks. So not only do they look great, each typographic artwork is totally unique.

Elle Interior’s Christmas Issue 2010

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Coulson Macleod’s typographic art is in the Christmas issue of Norwegian magazine Elle Interior.

As you can see Elle Interior has featured a print from our Winter Trees collection.

Our handmade Winter Tree prints are made from reclaimed wood (the timber started out life as Victorian roof timbers to be precise). We then whitewash the wood and over-print with a distressed image and distressed typography. Well it wouldn’t be a Coulson Macleod without some distressed typography would it?

Elle Decoration Loves Typographic Art

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Once again Coulson Macleod’s typographic art has been chosen by interiors style bible Elle Decoration to feature in their fabulous magazine.

ELLE Decoration, November 2010 issue.

ELLE Decoration, November 2010 issue.

Elle Decoration chose ‘The Roar of Tree and Crack of Branches’ typographic print from our Winter Trees collection.

We hand make the frame and panelled backboard from reclaimed wood. Actually the wood used to be Victorian roof timbers. How cool is that? We paint the wood and print on top with distressed image and typography.

Each artwork is totally unique. And totally unique to Coulson Macleod.
