Coulson Macleod Loves Anandamayi Arnold

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Perusing the June issue of The World of Interiors we came across an article that made our jaws drop.

The work of Anandamayi Arnold.

This American artist creates surprise balls, which in its basic form is simply layers of crêpe paper wound tightly around a little gift.

But Anandamayi’s creations are so amazingly intricate that you would never dream of destroying them. So the surprise gifts may lie hidden forever.

Sadly, Anandamayi’s surprise balls are only available to buy from one shop, Tail of the Yak, which is in Berkeley, California. So, if anyone happens to be passing…

Keeping It Local; Part 2

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

Last week there was an article in our local paper about a company called Rare Notions. Phiona Richards turns old books into sculptures and jewellery using traditional needlework techniques.

Phiona says on her website, “Having been brought up with a ‘make do and mend’ mentality I tend to collect and gather materials including books near the end of their existence and regenerate them into pleasing tactile structures using a variety of needlework techniques. Although they appear to be fragile and delicate they are quite robust and interaction becomes a therapeutic experience on many sensory levels.”

Coulson Macleod Loves Bovey Lee

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Bovey Lee felt a special connection to the fading Chinese folk art of paper-cutting. Her work, using impossibly thin rice paper, is obscenely intricate and utterly beautiful.

Handmade Paper Products from A Little Hut

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

I’ve just stumbled across a lovely shop called A Little Hut that sells handmade paper products by Texas-based graphic designer and paper artist, Patricia Zapata.

Patricia has been making hand-crafted cards since 2004, and she designs and produces everything that you can buy from her site.  She has also published a book on paper craft called Home, Paper, Scissors.  All of her work is hand-cut using mainly recycled paper.

I particularly love these gift boxes.  So cute.
