Winter Trees: Norwegian Style

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

Just stumbled across this gorgeous Norwegian blog. Jill lives in Bergen, and although she’s not an interior designer, her home, like her blog, is so beautifully styled. And Jill’s lovely husband gave her one of our ‘Winter Tree’ prints for Christmas. Doesn’t it look happy in its new home?

The vintage-style print is ‘Thick Blows My Frosty Breath Abroad’ (pictured below)…

And just check out Jill’s New Year’s Eve table…

1,000 More Greetings: Creative Correspondence Designed for All Occasions’

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

A long time ago, in a dim and distant past (last November to be precise), we were contacted by Rockport Publishers.

We’re fans of the work you produce and would like the opportunity to include it for publication in a new Rockport book, entitled 1,000 More Greetings.  We found your Love collection on design*sponge and thought it would fit well in the book.”

And now the book is out. And four of our Love prints are in it.

The blurb says, “Greetings often provide designer with the chance to truly stretch their creative wings. 1000 More Greetings features examples by designers who are enjoying the luxury of personal expression through creative freedom, without the need to satisfy a client.

The 1000 inspirational examples of invitations, announcements, greetings, and self promotions are created using unique materials and expressive treatments. With correspondence for every occasion, this book is a must have resource for designers who are looking for inspiration from an unprecedented collection of work by an international group of designers.”

The author is Aesthetic Movement, who are described as ‘a think tank for smart, creative collaborations’.

Other great names included in the book are…

  • Graphic designer and blogger Joy Deangdeelert Cho, who’s blog Oh Joy! is one of our favourites (see our We Love Blogs).
  • Norwegian designers and illustrators Darling Clementine, whose stationery is also sold in Chez Nous, a shop in Trondheim that sells our typographic art.
  • Washington-based Brown Sugar Design, run by Jonathan and Whitney Speir who design delectable wedding stationery
  • The brilliantly named Bob’s Your Uncle, a Boston-based greeting card company whose fantastic creations we’ve had the pleasure of owning.

You can buy 1,000 More Greetings from Amazon or Tesco (if you’re in the UK). Our copy is awaiting delivery. How very, very exciting.

Elle Interior’s Christmas Issue 2010

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Coulson Macleod’s typographic art is in the Christmas issue of Norwegian magazine Elle Interior.

As you can see Elle Interior has featured a print from our Winter Trees collection.

Our handmade Winter Tree prints are made from reclaimed wood (the timber started out life as Victorian roof timbers to be precise). We then whitewash the wood and over-print with a distressed image and distressed typography. Well it wouldn’t be a Coulson Macleod without some distressed typography would it?

Tusen Takk Trondheim

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Thank you Trondheim. Yes, we have another Norwegian stockist. Let me introduce you to…

the latest shop to stock Coulson Macleod typographic art.

Trondheim is right at the top of Norway. So we pretty much have the whole of Norway covered with our five stockists.

The shop is due to open on 15th October and we’ll tell you more about it then. But this is the outside, pre-makeover…

Chez Nous will also be stocking the most delightful stationery from fellow Norwegian company Darling Clementine

And cushions and wallpaper from Danish company Ferm Living

This is the second shop in Trondheim for the owners of Chez Nous. Their first is Cornelias Hus. As ever, stocked with the most gorgeous products.

Age Before Beauty

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Age before beauty is acutally the title of a great article written by Susie Steiner, Editor of Space, the interiors section of Saturday’s Guardian Weekend magazine.

The opening paragraph reads, “Shiny and smooth is out. Gnarled and chipped is in. Get with the distressed vibe…”

Well, obviously I was excited at reading that. Just how ‘on trend’ are we at Coulson Macleod!

Other snipets from the article, which was actually about  distressing your own furniture, include…

Our hunger for the distressed look…”

Interior of Linnea’s Hage showing our ‘Winter Tree’ prints

…the distressed interior makes a lot of sense: it’s easy to live with (no amount of hard living can dent its charms), it doesn’t jar against period architecture, it can be feminine or utilitarian, and, well, it’s cool”.  Yes, we’ll second that.

And as Susie Steiner says, “All hail the distressed interior”. Quite frankly who are we to argue?

Coulson Macleod’s 4th Norwegian Stockist

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Welcome to Coulson Macleod’s latest stockist…

in Gjøvik, Norway.

This gorgeous concept store/café opened on September 1st.

Gjovik is a small enormously pretty town with obviously fabulous shopping. And is right on Lake Mjosa, the biggest lake in Norway.

Our hearts long for Norway.

Ja, Vi Elsker Dette Landet

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Ja, vi elsker dette landet? It’s Norwegian. It translates as, Yes, we love this country. This is the title of their national anthem. And this is how Coulson Macleod feels about Norway.

Why do we love Norway?

Actually the question should be, why does Norway love Coulson Macleod?

We’ve just taken an order from our fourth stockist there. Coulson and I are thinking a trip to Norway is in order. We can visit our gorgeous-looking stockists in Oslo, Bergen, Gjøvik, and Nittedal (pictured)…

and this gorgeous looking country…

Coulson Macleod Keeps On Cheering!

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Well, well, well… Coulson Macleod is on a roll.

We now have our second stockist on board.

The divine-looking Bolina in Oslo, Norway. Unfortunately I can’t tell you much about the shop as the website is in Norwegian, apart from it was set up twenty years ago by two female friends, Cathrine and Hanne, and is one of the trendiest shops in Oslo, which the stylists visit every week for inspiration.

The photos of the products speak for themselves and it totally looks like a place that we’d quite happily spend hours browsing and buying.

Oooh, I’ve just thought, maybe Coulson Macleod should start visiting our stockists (yes I can say that word now in the plural) to say hello properly.
