Coulson Macleod’s Distressed Typographic Art

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Coulson Macleod’s latest collection, Curio, has come about because we love rummaging around old junk shops. We live in hope of unearthing some amazing long-forgotten treasure. We usually don’t. So we’ve recreated two actual adverts, just the sort of thing we’d like to find, but didn’t.

Believe it or not these are actual adverts. We’ve given them the Coulson Macleod treatment — distressed text, rough-sawn solid oak frame, for a vintage, worn, and well-loved look.

Coulson Macleod’s Website Keeps On Growing

Monday, November 30th, 2009

According to Alexa, the clever folk who measure website traffic, Coulson Macleod is ranked 2,541,410 in the world.  Admittedly we’ve got a long way to go before we get to number one, but this figure is up 190% in the last three months. One day we’ll be the number one for typographic art, and limited edition art, which will be good enough for me.

And if you only take our rank in the US we’re 386,653 the most popular website, which does sound so much better.

Everyone’s Talking About Coulson Macleod

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Since we launched Coulson Macleod Limited Edition back in March (2009) it’s been really exciting to see who and where people are talking about us, and we log all the best bits on our Facebook page.  I’ve seen things written about us in all sorts of languages including Thai, and I just have to hope they’ve written nice things as it’s completely indecipherable to me.

Take a look and we’d love you to become a fan too.

Credit Crunch? I Know, Let’s Start a New Business!

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

So there I am, minding my own business, when Macleod says the words that bring all this into being, “Don’t take this the wrong way but I don’t think much to the pictures on your walls”, she’s like that, tactful in the extreme.

So what’s a boy to do?  Buy new art obviously.

Easier said than done.  We just could not find a thing we liked.  Or if we liked it we couldn’t afford it.  We wanted something cool and funky and not mass-produced, there’s nothing worse than seeing your prized possession on the walls of Ian Beale’s home in Eastenders!

We also had the usual “I’m not putting that on the wall!” type conversations, whenever I looked admiringly at a pop-art supehero or she produced a picture of a daisy from behind her back!

Eventually, to get exactly what we wanted, we decided to make our own (I am a graphic designer after all), and the idea was born — Coulson Macleod — in all it’s shiny glory!

Oops, got a bit carried away there…

Anyway, ‘Dead Cool’ was the first print to make it onto our walls and the start of a whole new adventure for us.

What do you think?

(And please tell me you get it… so many people don’t!)

Coulson Macleod is now just over six months old and slowly starting to find its feet, and this bit of our blog is all about Coulson Macleod the business — the highs, the lows, maybe a few more lows, then possibly another high, you get the picture. It will all be here. Please feel free to join us.…
