Coulson Macleod Loves Bovey Lee

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Bovey Lee felt a special connection to the fading Chinese folk art of paper-cutting. Her work, using impossibly thin rice paper, is obscenely intricate and utterly beautiful.

Coulson Macleod Is Truly Global

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Thought I’d just tot up where in the world we’ve shipped our art to. So aside from the UK, Coulson Macleod prints now hang in homes in the following countries…

Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, and of course from the east to west coast of the USA.

How very, very cool!

Coulson Macleod Goes All Wintry

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Our latest collection, ‘Winter Trees’ is now online to buy at Coulson Macleod

Thick Blows My Frosty Breath Abroad’

Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind’

The Roar of Trees and Crack of Branches’

Freeze, Freeze Thou Bitter Sky’

We’ve handmade the frame and panelled backboard from reclaimed antique Victorian roof timbers, the same timbers that we use for our ‘Zodiac’ frames, because they are just so gorgeous. The planks all vary in size, so no piece is identical.

We then hand paint the boards and over-print it with distressed image and typography.

Winter Trees’ is unlimited in print quantity.

Coulson Macleod in Easy Living

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Coulson Macleod is featured in this month’s issue of Easy Living Magazine.

Our artwork ‘Love Makes The Ride Worthwhile’ is on page 11 on the Editor’s letter page. Susie Forbes says, “Finally — this Coulson Macleod panel (£149) with its sweet and poignant message takes us right back to feeling the love — and let’s face it, there’s nothing quite like it!”

So thank you very much Susie Forbes, Editor of Easy Living. You have great taste!

Coulson Macleod Sees Red

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Coulson Macleod can be seen in this month’s issue of Red (not a feature, unfortunately, but we’ve got a lovely big advert.)

Now we don’t do a great deal of advertising, because advertising costs lots of money. We’d like to though. We appear monthly in Elle Decoration and Livingetc. And if you follow this blog, you’ll know that we did advertise in the January issue of Elle.

Our adverts always attract lovely new customers, which is obviously the point. But there is also a part of us that simply loves opening a magazine and seeing ourselves in print!

Coulson Macleod Exhibits in Open 10

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Last night Coulson Macleod went to the opening night of Open 10, the annual open contemporary art show that is being held in Kettering’s beautiful Alfred East Art Gallery.

We perused the 83 selected artworks, naturally admiring some more than others, sipping our glass of wine. A jolly lovely way to spend an evening.

We blogged about Open 10 last week when we found out that one of our artworks ‘The Sixties’ had been selected to exhibit and we mentioned some other artists who had also been selected. So here are few more names to check out (again I can only point you to the artists who have a website, and you’d be surprised just how many don’t)…

Joanne Archer, Stella Benford, Roger Bradley, Craig Bridgeford, Paul Bursnall, Andree Fletcher, Sarah Kay, Brian Mutton, Emma Raby, and Warren Shaw .

Open 10 is now open to the general public and closes on 19th June. So if you happen to be in the area do pop in and check out the local talent and maybe pick up a piece of contemporary art.

Coulson Macleod Launches New Website

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Since launching Coulson Macleod a little over a year ago (we started the business in March 2009) we’ve updated our website twice. Actually updating is incorrect, we’ve completely redesigned the website twice.

And now we’ve just launched our third version.

Each time we strip it back further for an even more uncluttered look. We love simplicity. And we totally love our new version, which was designed by us.

Would love to hear your comments.

Coulson Macleod’s ‘Zodiac’ Art Collection

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

OK we couldn’t wait any longer. We’ve not even put these online yet as we’re waiting to showcase them on our new website (we’re beavering away as fast as we can on this). Anyway, introducing you to the latest art collection ‘Zodiac’ from Coulson Macleod

Zodiac’ features the personality traits of each zodiac sign. We’ve used distressed typography (of course!). But this time printed onto solid limestone. Yep. Gorgeous solid creamy limestone. Our limestone tiles have been tumbled (a process that produces an aged appearance) as we wanted an uneven pitted surface along with broken edges and rounded corners. Don’t tell anyone, but we’ve been doing an unhealthy amount of stroking, the limestone feels that good.

Our ‘Zodiac’ prints are open editions, which means there is an unlimited print quantity. So, because they are not limited like most of our artwork, they are also a little lighter on the purse.

We’re selling them either framed (see our Capricorn print above). The framed size is 48cm x 28cm x 4cm.

Or unframed (see our Aquarius print above). The unframed size is 40cm x 20cm x 1.2cm.

The unframed prints look totally fab simply leaning on a bookshelf nestled between books. Or of course the framed version can be hung on a wall.

The frames are handmade as is the Coulson Macleod way. Again we’ve used reclaimed antique Victorian roof timbers. This means that each frame is actually unique. The wood is full of lovely defects. Some come with knot holes, or nail holes, warps and water marks.

Hope you fall in love with these like we have.

Coulson Macleod Exhibits In Art Show

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Pretty chuffed that Coulson Macleod has been selected to exhibit at Open 10, Kettering Art Gallery’s Annual Open Contemporary Art Exhibition.

Our ‘The Sixties’ print will be on view (and on sale) from April 28th to June 19th.

The event aims to ‘bring together contemporary art from emerging and established artists in the region in painting, print, textiles, sculpting, and new media.’

212 works were submitted to Open 10, and 83 have been selected to exhibit. This year the selection panel consisted of Craig Ashley, Producer of Visual Arts and Media at mac, Andrew Bergman, Partner at the Kettering branch of solicitors Wilson Browne, and Simon Lake, Senior Curator of Art at Leicester’s New Walk Museum and Art Gallery.

Other artists that have been selected include…

Ivan Green (two of his prints have just been acquired by the V&A for inclusion in their permanent collection), artist and illustrator Chris Prout who has a fun-to-read blog The Painters ProgressRae Flack, Kelly Gardner, Brenda McKetty, Mark Fearnley, and Linda Straw.

I could obviously only select the artists that actually have a web presence. I Googled their names so I just hope that these are the correct artists!

Let us know what you think.
