Twenty More Years Of Design

Friday, June 24th, 2011

Admittedly this has been on the Coulson Macleod agenda for some time. Our customers keep asking for it. And now, finally, we’ve almost done it…

designed two more typographic prints for our ‘Decades’ collection; ‘The Nineties’ and ‘The Noughties’. Yay!

And, even more exciting news, we’re also launching a bespoke version too. We’ll obviously show you the finished prints when they’re ready.

These are the three existing typographic prints in our ‘Decades’ collection…

Our three new typographic prints will feature brand-new, even lovelier and chunkier, frames. Professionally framed by a Fine Art Trade Guild member.

So in preparation for the launch, we’ve put our framed ‘Decades’ collection (with the old-style picture frame) in our Clearance Page. So don’t hesitate if you fancy picking up a bargain, numbers are limited, and when they’ve sold out… well they’re sold out.

It’s All Relative

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Coulson Macleod’s ‘Not For Squares’ blog is usually about art, design, typography, and business. So perhaps this photo is slightly out of the ordinary…

But I (this is Macleod writing) love it and that’s reason enough to show it off.

I’m very pleased to introduce you to my mother’s very regal looking Italian great grandfather Sacerdote Bonny  and his wife Clara.

Coulson Macleod Loves Shauna Richardson

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Another artist that I’ve personally known and admired for a long time is Shauna Richardson.

Shauna lives locally. Whilst studying fine art at Leicester University her architectural paintings caught my parents attention and one of her early works of art now hangs in their living room.

But Shauna is far better known these days for being a crochetdermist.

A what?

Well, she makes animal sculptures from crochet. Sounds a bit weird, doesn’t it? Check out her work below.

Shauna is currently in the process of creating three giant lions for the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

Each lion takes seven months to make and uses approximately eighty kilos of local Swaledale wool. When completed, the 25-foot lions will prowl the country before returning to the East Midlands.

Shauna’s crochetdermy pieces are created to commission. But you can buy pieces from her website. Prices range from £450 to £15,000.

Elle Decoration Loves Typographic Art

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Once again Coulson Macleod’s typographic art has been chosen by interiors style bible Elle Decoration to feature in their fabulous magazine.

ELLE Decoration, November 2010 issue.

ELLE Decoration, November 2010 issue.

Elle Decoration chose ‘The Roar of Tree and Crack of Branches’ typographic print from our Winter Trees collection.

We hand make the frame and panelled backboard from reclaimed wood. Actually the wood used to be Victorian roof timbers. How cool is that? We paint the wood and print on top with distressed image and typography.

Each artwork is totally unique. And totally unique to Coulson Macleod.

We Love Typographic Art

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Since we launched our typographic art business 18 months ago, Coulson Macleod has made lots of creative friends. One of these is artist/designer Joanne Holbrook.

Joanne, who used to work as a graphic designer for packaging designers Jones Knowles Ritchie and design agency Publicis, launched her art business in 2004.

When her eldest son Stanley was born six years ago, she created this gorgeous print for his nursery wall, making a collage of his name using some old printers blocks she’d picked up from a London market…

Then, when Albert arrived three years later, she created this equally lovely one for him…

Glad to have made something special for her boys; Joanne put the blocks away. But when friends visited, they kept asking where she’d bought her artwork. Then nagged her to do the same for their children.

Taking the original letterpress effect as inspiration, Joanne now digitally creates unique designs.

Visit Joanne’s store on Not On The High Street for her full range.
