A slightly unusual Coulson Macleod loves today.

Whilst perusing Pinterest we came across this quite spectacular bathroom sink, which we re-pinned. As you do.

seven-foot-long carved marble trough sink

Only to realise that the sink belongs to Kevin Roberts, CEO Worldwide of Saatchi & Saatchi. Who just happens to be our most regular & most loyal customer. And a vocal supporter of Coulson Macleod.

Kevin (we like to think we’re on first name terms) jets around the world leading an international team of more than 7000 creative people in eighty-two countries. So when he needed a quiet retreat in New York he called upon architect Sam Trimble, who was working on a commission for Robert De Niro. We do like a bit of name-dropping.

Trimble (we’re not on first name terms) designed Kevin a 600-square-metre cave-like loft in the heart of Tribeca, just steps from ground zero and a nine-minute walk to his office. With no guest bedrooms or kitchen as only eats out apparently, this is a place designed by Kevin for Kevin.

Kevin didn’t want a lot of art to distract him, apart from a large Sean Landers piece that he commissioned (see the photos below). We like to think he displays Coulson Macleod art in his family home in New Zealand.

Sean Landers’s ‘Becoming Great’ above a nine-foot-long teak bench

Each typographic print features a chunky handmade rough-sawn solid oak frame that surrounds a white-washed oak panel printed with distressed text.

Distressed (very Coulson Macleod) hand-stamped typography printed on to a handmade (again, very Coulson Macleod) frame made from salvaged pallet wood.

The handmade frame (made from salvaged shipping pallets, so very eco-friendly) is roughly hand-painted white. And of course we purposefully retain any defects in the wood to add to the charm and character of the piece. These can include nail holes, knot holes, warps and water marks, so each frame is totally unique.

The chair images are hand-drawn by Coulson Macleod before being turned into rubber stamps. Each individual chair is then hand-stamped before being digitised and coloured. The paper is 100% recycled and is therefore slightly textured with flecks of the recycled material, giving it a natural, off-white appearance.
