Hand Drawn’ Prints; Reclaimed Wood Frames

Monday, October 14th, 2013

Our ‘Hand Drawn Quotes’ are a mixture of hand-drawn illustration art & word art. There’s six prints in the collection.

  • Imagination — ‘imagination is more important than knowledge
  • Rock n Roll — ‘it’s only rock ‘n’ roll but i like it’
  • Dangerous — ‘mad, bad, and dangerous to know’
  • Timekeeping — ‘better late than never but never late is better’
  • Fashions Fade — ‘fashions fade, style is eternal’
  • Pronunciation — ‘you say tom-ay-to i say tom-ar-to’

Each ‘Hand Drawn Quotes’ print measures 25cm x 25cm. The artwork is printed onto hand-painted textured hardboard. The frame is handmade in Britain using reclaimed roof timbers that we’ve salvaged from demolished Victorian factories. We retain any defects in the wood to add to the charm & character of the print. These can include knot holes, nail holes, warps, & water marks. This means that your frame will be totally unique.

Decades’ Prints; Reclaimed Wood Frames

Thursday, October 10th, 2013

Our ‘Decades’ typography prints have, up until now, only been available as large (50cm x 50cm) 100% recycled paper prints.

Now we’ve re-released ‘Decades’. These new word art prints are smaller (25cm x 25cm) & wooden.

What Is Love?

Thursday, May 30th, 2013

To solve that riddle with just one answer is beyond me, for love is many different and contradictory things.

In the early stages love is excitement and breathlessness, it is the ache of separation and the comfort of togetherness, and it builds inexorably to that moment when ‘I’ becomes ‘we’.

Later, if blessed, love becomes a stronger, less transitory thing, a foundation for two lives lived as one.

It is all around us, there for the taking, yet to seek it out is futile. It cannot be bought or stolen or given. It cannot be avoided or denied.

Love is the beautiful, wonderful, mysterious mortar that binds two souls together and I first heard its voice on the day I met you. It has been with me every moment since.

This is love.

Typographic Art On Wood

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

Which print is your favourite?

These three typographic art prints feature distressed, hand-stamped, typography. Each individual letter has been hand-stamped using rubber stamps. The stamped lettering is then scanned & positioned digitally.

The word art is printed onto a handmade frame using salvaged wood that we rescue from demolished Victorian factories. As we only use reclaimed wood, the planks used to make the backboard vary in size for each print. And we like to retain any defects in the timber to add to the charm & character of the piece. These can include knot holes, nail holes, warps, & water marks, so each word art print is totally unique.

Midlife Crisis’ typographic wooden print

Coulson Macleod’s typographic ‘Midlife Crisis’ print is surrounded by a handmade frame using reclaimed wood salvaged from demolished Victorian factories.

Available as a standard print (shown above) or you can personalise the print with your names & a date below the text.

We think this would make a pretty good 40th birthday present. Agree?

A Herd Of Prints

Saturday, March 9th, 2013

We wrote a blog post about the individual prints yesterday, but this group shot of all six new wooden prints is rather lovely so you’ve got another look.

Each print features vintage 19th century zoological steel engravings, which we’ve mixed with modern-day typography (as we’re prone to doing at Coulson Macleod). The artwork is printed onto painted board & surrounded by a handmade frame using reclaimed wood salvaged from demolished Victorian factories (again, we do so love this old wood).
